Coconut Oil as Biodiesel Fuel

Coconut oil is making the news again in a new way. It turns out that coconut oil makes a great biodiesel fuel. Biodiesel fuel is a renewable and biodegradable fuel extracted from plant oil. Coconut Biodiesel fuel will help substantially in reducing emissions from diesel-fed engines. It is now starting to be used in the United States, Philippines, Canada, Thailand, and many countries in Europe.

According to a Philippine Manufacturer, Coconut Methyl Ester (CME) or Coco-Biodiesel is one of the best forms of biodiesels and offers excellent lubricity, solvency, and detergency. Studies show that the addition of Coco-Biodiesel results in better combustion, less pollution, and more engine power; the engines run smoothly & with longer maintenance intervals. Coco-Biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine with little or no modification to the engine or fuel system. Also, blending Coco-Biodiesel with standard diesel actually improves the quality of the diesel fuel. Just a 1% mix of Coco-Biodiesel is enough to significantly reduce emissions. http://www.doe.gov.ph/Alternative/cme.htm

I think that is pretty exciting news! It's hard to believe how versatile coconuts are. Not only is coconut oil good fuel for trucks and cars, but it is also one of the best fuels we can put into our bodies.
